Today, let's discuss Act 3 and then move on to Act 4 and project time.
Here are a few of my thoughts/questions:
- Did you like Macbeth's character in the beginning of the play? What do you think of his honor now?
- Can you see the irony in his killing of Banquo?
- What do you think Shakespeare is doing with the continually developing motif of darkness (and light in general)? Consider what happens to the sun and the torch in 3.3.
- Who is in control, Macbeth or Lady Macbeth? Has that changed?
- Often, Scene V is left out of live performances. Why do you think that is?
- What do you think Shakespeare is saying about the definition of what it means to be a man? (This is coming up in more than just Lady Macbeth's lines now.)
